About the Gyrotonic Method

The GYROTONIC EXPANSION SYSTEM® is unique and holistic with whole-body exercises performed on multiple types of custom-designed equipment. In the studio, both private and group classes will utilize pulleys, free weights and other specialized features to support a range of movement patterns.

Resistance training is important for aging, and Gyrotonic exercises are ideal for gaining strength and mobility. Spiraling, circular movements are inherent to the method, and sequences flow together seamlessly. This allows your joints to move through a natural range of motion without jarring or compression.

Both the Gyrotonic and Gyrokinesis methods provide a full-body workout, addressing the entire person both physically and energetically. With regular practice, you will benefit from greater strength, movement efficiency and range of motion, plus a calmer yet more agile nervous system.

Juliu Horvath developed the Gyrotonic and Gyrokinesis Methods. As a professional dancer, Horvath suffered a series of injuries during his career and sought movement that would help him heal and regain his strength and agility. Thus, the Gyrotonic Method was born.

Juliu later developed his woodworking craft and built equipment by hand. This accounts for the beautiful and organic designs of the Gyrotonic apparatus.
