The Pilates Method is a conditioning program that stretches, strengthens and balances the body, in which attention is focused on the breath and whole-body movement. It was developed by Joseph Pilates in the early 1900s with the intention of harmonizing the body, mind and spirit and living a life filled with “spontaneous zest and pleasure.”
Pilates is much more than a mat-based workout. Joe also developed a repertoire of exercises on the various apparatus that he designed and built.
